Autumn in the Adirondacks – Let’s Go!

I’ve always found the Adirondacks to be a place of beauty and wonder, so the opportunity to create wellness workshops and retreats in this setting is a dream come true for me. I hope you will join me, then, for the first of what I hope will be many programs in my new endeavor, The Adirondack Wellness Project, where, with fellow Duke Integrative Medicine-trained wellness coach and yoga aficionado, Jody Dixon, I’ll be leading trainings, workshops, and retreats.

Our kickoff event will be stellar: The Fall Wellness Retreat on October 6-8 at the beautiful Lapland Lake Nordic Vacation Center near Northville, NY. This will be a weekend of fellowship, fun, and super healthy movement.

Check in begins at 11 am on Friday with check-in and lunch in our private dining room. Formal programming at 3:00 PM will feature introductions and yoga in our private Community Room. There’s time for a walk, kayak ride, or shake off the work week in a cozy chair till dinner, then evening programming and wind-down yoga from 7:30-9.

Saturday and Sunday mornings will start with meditation and wake-up yoga from 7-8:30, followed by breakfast and hiking. Saturday afternoon will also offer plenty of down time for relaxation, lake kayaking, or exploring the surrounding area on your own. Before getting ready to dine out on Saturday evening, we’ll have a second yoga practice.

Saturday evening will conclude with a campfire at the lake. Bring something to throw over your shoulders. If a crisp glass of Pinot would enhance your experience, feel free to bring a bottle of wine to share. There is a refrigerator in the house. On Sunday morning we’ll vacate the rooms by 11, but our workshop doesn’t officially end until after lunch. You are also free to enjoy the grounds until 4 PM.

We’ll practice breath-based yoga that is suitable for all levels and bodies. You’ll work at your own speed—even if that’s super slow. Morning practices will prepare your large muscles and respiratory system for hiking. Afternoon and evening practices will relax the body and calm the mind for evening socializing and restorative sleep.

All accommodations have fully furnished kitchens stocked with coffee and tea. Feel free to bring your favorites along with you. We’ll have the use of our own private community room stocked with yoga props and mats, but feel free to bring yours if you are more comfortable on your own mat.

The per person rate includes double occupancy with shared baths–approximately one bath for every two rooms. If you prefer to go solo, there is a single supplement available. (No private baths, though.) The price also includes meals and snacks from Friday lunch through Sunday lunch, with the exception of Saturday evening dinner out. All program fees and use of the private lakefront with kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats are also covered. If biking is your thing, bring yours. Nearby rentals are also available.

Of course, it’s October in the Adirondacks, so don’t forget your camera! The scenery should be glorious.
